The Petal Gown
This gown incorporates three fiber manipulation techniques, and I chose to work with natural dyes, natural starch, a zero-waste, eco-friendly textile creation method. This method is called “Reclem”, and it takes small scraps of fabric and upcycles them into a new textile. My unique take on this was to use my homemade starch to “papier mache” the scraps directly onto a mannequin to perfectly shape the garment to the body, no darts and minimal seems. I wanted the final product to be romantic, elegant, and whimsical, but most of all, sustainable.
